A Mother’s Love

The bond between a mother and her child is so profound that words can neither fully define it nor allow us to truly comprehend it until we experience it ourselves.

I have often pondered upon the question: What does it truly mean to be a good mother? Will I be able to shoulder the responsibility and grow alongside my child through every joy and hardship? Will I be strong enough to navigate the journey, both physically and emotionally?

Yet, when the mind begins to bombard us with all these logical questions, the heart speaks an entirely different language. The moment those two red lines appear, tears begin to roll down our cheeks, and for many, it is nothing short of a beautiful miracle. At the very heart of it all is love—and perhaps the most extraordinary part is that it is love at first sight, even before the child is born.

Loving this child becomes a lifelong commitment. Regardless of how the child looks, what they become, or what challenges they may face, a mother’s love remains unwavering. She will go above and beyond to ensure that her child is safe, healthy, and happy.

Mothers… they simply create wonders.

They sacrifice so much of themselves to ensure that this tiny human being is given a life filled with health, happiness, comfort, and love. And when I speak of mothers, I also speak of adoptive mothers and parents who willingly open their hearts, embrace the responsibility, and choose to love a child with the same depth of devotion and commitment.

As a daughter, I am immensely grateful and blessed to have a wonderful mother. There are no words capable of measuring everything she has done for us. Growing up, I loved listening to her stories about our childhood the happy moments, the mischievous adventures, and even the furious little episodes that once seemed so significant. Those memories are precious, and I hope they remain etched in both our hearts for many years to come.

Although we came from a humble background, never once did she make excuses when it came to providing for us. She ensured that our household remained cared for while my father devoted himself to serving the country.

An independent woman who experienced motherhood in her early twenties, she still had an entire life ahead of her. Yet, she never regretted her choices and never complained about the sacrifices she had to make. She simply did everything within her power to raise us, nurture us, and give us the best life she possibly could.

I have also encountered situations that have made me understand the depth of a mother’s love in an entirely different way.

Recently, my 25-year-old brother-in-law was diagnosed with a stage 3 brain tumor. All of us were devastated and shattered by the news, but I could only imagine what his mother must have felt at that moment. She struggled to express the depth of her emotions, yet she continued to carry on, sustained by silent prayers, endless tears, and an unwavering hope.

Countless hospital visits. Endless questions. Repeated explanations of his medical history. Preparing meals. Watching him endure exhausting radiotherapy and chemotherapy sessions. Sleepless nights that seemed to stretch endlessly.

And yet, she never gave up.

Through all of this, I witnessed a bond that seemed to grow even stronger with every passing day. A bond so powerful that, despite the fear and uncertainty surrounding us, what remained most visible was love.

A mother’s love became the quiet strength that kept us all going at the end of each day.

While all of this was unfolding in our lives, I had the opportunity to visit a temple nestled in the mountains. As we were preparing for our prayers, I noticed a baby monkey clinging tightly to its mother’s belly.

But that was not the part that caught my attention.

As the mother searched for food, she eventually found a banana. She peeled it and lovingly fed it to her baby.

Beautiful, isn’t it?

God’s creation is truly a breathtaking masterpiece, and we are fortunate enough to witness its magnificence in so many different forms. In that moment, I realized that a mother’s love is truly beyond measure. A mother’s heart recognizes no boundaries, not between the human world and the wild, nor between species.

It is simply driven by an instinctive and boundless force of love, affection, and devotion.

Perhaps that is the most beautiful thing about motherhood. It does not need words. It does not require explanations. It simply exists.

And perhaps, in every corner of creation, a mother teaches us the same timeless lesson:

Love knows no boundaries.

I would like to end my reflection with a beautiful quote attributed to Kahlil Gibran:

“The word ‘Mother’ is hidden in the heart, and it can easily be spoken by the lips. It is the language of love.”
