නුවර මධ්‍යකේ තිබුකේ විසල් සීනු කුළුණකි. ඒ සීනුව නාද වන සෑම පැයෙම මිනිසුන් ඔවුන්කේ ඔරක ෝසු සෙස්ෙරගත්හ. ො ය යනු සීනුකේ හඬ බවත්, සතයය යනු ඒ හඬට කීෙරු වීම බවත් ඔවුන් විශ්වාස ෙළහ.

ඒ නුවර ජීවත් වූකේ ස්ටිවන් නම් කල්ඛෙකයකි. ඔහුකේ අකත් නිතරම තිබුකේ විශා අත්ිටපතක්. එහි ලියා තිබුකේ ඔහුකේ ආදරය, ඔහුකේ සිහින, ඔහුකේ විශ්වාස, ඔහුට උගන්වා තිබූ සියලු සතයයනය. ඔහු එය \"කේශගුණය\" යැයි නම් ෙකළ්ය. මන්ද, එහි වචනද ව ාකුළු කමන් නිතර හැඩ කවනස්ෙළ නිසාය.

ඔහුකේ ජීවිතකේ පළමු හාදුව, පළමු විප් වය, පළමු ආගම, පළමු කේශපා න විශ්වාසය සියල් ඔහු එම අත්ිටපත තුළ ගබඩා ෙර තිබුකේය. ො යත් සමඟ ඒවා පූජනීය විය. ප්‍රශ්න කිරීමට කනාහැකි කේවල් බවට පත් විය.

ස්ීවන් තම අත්ිටපත විවෘත ෙකළ්ය. වැසි ජ කයන් ිටු කතමී තිබුණි. තීන්ත දියවී කගාස්තිබුණි. ඔහු ආදරය ෙළ වචන, ඔහු සදාොලිෙ යැයි සිතූ කපාකරාන්දු, ඔහුකේ සතයයන් සියල් කබාඳ වී යමින් තිබුණි. ඔහු ඒවා කේරාගැනීමට උත්සාහ ෙකළ්ය. එකහත් ඒ කමාකහාකත් ඔහු අමුතු කදයක් දුටුකේය.

බිඳී ගිකේ සීනුව පමණක් කනාවීය. බිඳී ගිකේ ඔහු සතයය යැයි රැෙකගන සිටි කූඩුවද විය.

ඒ වන කතක් ඔහු කේදනාවක් පවා වටිනා වස්තුවක් කමන් රැෙකගන තිබුණි. පරණ තුවා කවල්වට් කපට්ටිව දමා තබාකගන, ඒවා අමි මැණික් යැයි විශ්වාස ෙරමින් ජීවත් වී තිබුණි.

එකහත් කුණාටුකවන් පසු ඔහු දුටුකේ තුවා මත මල් ිකපන බවය.

කල් ගැලූ තැන්ව ජීවිතය නැවත මතුවන බවය.

සීනුවක් වැටුණු තැන තවත් සීනුවක් තැනිය හැකි බවය.

හාදුවක් මිය ගිය තැන තවත් ආදරයක් උපදින බවය.

ඒ රාත්‍රිකේ ඔහු නුවරින් ිටව ගිකේය. ඔහුට මාර්ගකේදී මිනිසුන් හමු විය.

කෙකනක් අල්තාරයක් කගාඩනඟමින් සිටිකේය.

තව කෙකනක් කේදිොවක් මත චරිතයක් රඟපාමින් සිටිකේය.

තවත් අය සිතියම් අඳිමින් ජීවිතයට අර්ථ කසායමින් සිටියහ.

ස්ීවන් ඔවුන් කදස බ ා සිටිකේය. පසුව ඔහු තම අත්ිටපකත් අවසාන ිටුව ඉරා දැමුකේය. සිතියම වසා දැමුකේය.

අල්තාරයට ගිනි තැබුකේය.

කොටින්ම, ඔහු රඟපාමින් සිටි චරිතකයන් ඉවත්වුකේය.

පළමු වරට, කිසිම සංකක්තයක් කනාමැතිව, කිසිම ආගමක් කනාමැතිව, කිසිම මහා සතයයක් කනාමැතිව, ඔහු කපාකළාව මත නිරුවත් පයින් ඇවිදින්නට පටන් ගත්කත්ය.

ඒ කමාකහාකත් ඔහු කත්රුම් ගත්කත්....

පළමු සතයය කේදනාව බවත්, කදවැනි සතයය එහි කහ්තුව බවත්, තුන්වැනි සතයය එයින් මිදීකම් හැකියාව බවත්.

නමුත් හතරවැනි සතයය වූකේ,

කිසිදු කුළුණක්, කිසිදු අත්ිටපතක්, කිසිදු පුරාවෘත්තයක් අල් ා කනාකගන, සතයය මැදින් කනාව ජීවිතය මැදින් ඇවිද යාම බවය.

එතැන් පටන් ඔහු ගැ වීම කසවූකේ නැත. ඔහු ජීවත් විය.
