മുഖം മറയ്ക്കാൻ

ആദ്യം ഒരു തുണി വന്നു-

പർദ്ദ എന്ന് പേരിട്ടു.

അന്യപുരുഷന്മാർ

കാണാതിരിക്കാനെന്ന പേരിൽ

കണ്ണുകൾ അടച്ചത്

സ്ത്രീയുടെ ലോകത്തിനായിരുന്നു.

കാറ്റ് കാണുന്ന മുഖം

സൂര്യൻ തൊടുന്ന നെറ്റി

പാതകളിൽ സ്വതന്ത്രമായി

നടക്കേണ്ട പാദങ്ങൾ-

എല്ലാം

ഒരു തുണിക്കുള്ളിൽ ഒതുക്കി.

പർദ്ദ

ഒരു വസ്ത്രമല്ല,

ആദ്യമായി വെച്ച

സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിന്റെ പൂട്ടായിരുന്നു.

എങ്കിലും

കാറ്റ് ചോദിക്കുന്നു ഇന്നും-

മുഖം മറച്ചാൽ

മനസ്സ് മറയ്ക്കാനാകുമോ?
