മരിക്കുന്നവർ വേദനിക്കുന്നുണ്ടോയെന്ന്
നിങ്ങൾ ആകുലപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടോ?
നിഴലും ഇരുളും പരിണയിക്കുന്ന രാത്രികളിൽ
നരിച്ചീറും കൂമനും മാത്രം സാക്ഷ്യം വഹിക്കെ,
കല്ലറക്കുമേൽ ആലേഖനം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട സ്വന്തം
പേരു നോക്കി നിശ്ശബ്ദം നെടുവീർപ്പിടുന്നയവരെ
കാണാൻ സാധിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടോ?
മണ്ണരിച്ചിറങ്ങിയ,
പെയ്യ്തുവെള്ളം കുടിച്ചുറങ്ങുന്നവരുടെ
സ്പർശ്ശനത്തിലെ നിസ്സംഗതയുടെ
തണുപ്പനുഭവപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടോ?
കൈവിട്ടു പോയ കാലത്തിലെ,
പിഴച്ചു പോയ കണക്കുകൂട്ടലുകളെ
തിരുത്തി ശരിപ്പെടുത്തുവാൻ
പുറകിലേക്കു നടക്കുവാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്ന
ആ മനസ്സുകളെ തൊട്ടറിഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ടോ?
വാവിനു കാകനായ് വന്നു,
സാക്ഷാത്കരിക്കാതെ പോയ സ്വപ്നങ്ങളുടെ ബലിച്ചോറുണ്ണുന്നയവരുടെ കണ്ണുകളിലെ
നിരാശ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടോ?
പ്രപഞ്ചം രാവുറങ്ങുമ്പോൾ
കനവുകളിലെ നിഴൽക്കൂത്തിൽ,
പറയുവാൻ ബാക്കിവെച്ചവയെല്ലാം
നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്ന ആ നിശ്ശബ്ദ പാവകളായ
അവരുടെയെല്ലാം നിസ്സഹായത തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ടോ?
എനിക്ക് അങ്ങിനെ ഒരുവൾ സുപരിചിതയാണ്.
എന്നിലെന്നോയടക്കം ചെയ്യ്ത ഞാനെന്നയവളെ!
The English translation of this Malayalam poem is given below.
Do You Know?
Have you been worried,
If the dead are paining?
The night,
When the shadows and darkness
Sleep together,
Bats and owls will be
The only witnesses.
Have you ever
Able to notice
Those who read
One’s own name
On the graves where
They are engraved,
With a deep sigh?
Have you ever
Felt the coldness
Of the dead,
From the very touch
Of the ones who
Drink the rainwater
Which drains through
The mud and who sleep
Under the soil?
Have you ever
Touched the mind
Of those who
Wish to walk back
To the past and make
The wrong calculations
Right?
Have you ever
Noticed the disappointment
In the eyes of
Those who come
In the form of ravens
To eat the rice balls
Of unfulfilled dreams,
On the *vavu days?
When the whole universe
Sleeps,
Have you ever
Recognised the helplessness
Of those who
Come in the dreams,
And plays the puppet show
To tell you everything
Which they once couldn’t?
One such woman
Is familiar to me.
The one who is
Cremated inside me,
Her is me!
Notes
Vavu is a special day, on which people do puja and offer rice balls to crows. They believe that ancestors come in the form of crows to have it.
