കണ്ണു തുറക്കൂ

ചെറുപുഴയിലൊരു കർഷകൻ,

പാട്ടത്തിനു ഭൂമിയെടുത്തു.

കടമെടുത്തു കൃഷിയിറക്കി,

വിയർപ്പിനെ വിത്താക്കി വിതറി.

കൃഷിയിലവൻ ജയനായ് ഉയർന്നു,

പുരസ്‌കാരവും നേടി;

മാതൃകാ കർഷകനായി

ഗ്രാമത്തിന്റെ അഭിമാനമായി പരിണമിച്ചു.

പച്ചപ്പിന്റെ നടുവിൽ

സ്വപ്നങ്ങൾ കൊഴുത്തു നിൽക്കുമ്പോഴും,

കടമാലവൻ പൊറുതി മുട്ടി-

അവനു സമ്മർദ്ദമേറി.

വാക്കുകളിൽ പറഞ്ഞറിയിക്കാനാവാത്ത

ഒരു പാട് പ്രയാസങ്ങൾ,

ഹൃദയത്തിൽ കല്ലായി കിടന്നു;

മനസ്സിലെ നിശ്ശബ്ദം

വിളവിനെക്കാൾ ഭാരമായി.

അവന്റെ കൃഷിയിടത്തിൽ തന്നെയവൻ

ജീവൻ വേണ്ടെന്നു വെച്ചു…

വിത്തുകൾ മുളച്ച മണ്ണിൽ

ഒരു ജീവൻ വാടിപ്പോയി.

ഇന്ന് അവന്റെ ഓർമ്മകൾക്ക് മുൻപിൽ

ശിരസ്സ് നമിച്ചു പ്രണാമം;

വിയർപ്പിന്റെ മണം നിറഞ്ഞ മണ്ണ്

അവന്റെ കഥ പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

അധികാരികളേ, കണ്ണു തുറക്കൂ-

ഈ മണ്ണിന്റെ നിശ്ശബ്ദ നിലവിളി കേൾക്കൂ.

വിത്ത് വിതയ്ക്കുന്ന കൈകൾ

വേദനയിൽ വിറയ്ക്കാതിരിക്കട്ടെ…
