ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ (Pehli Vaar, The First Time)

ਕੱਲ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਯਾਦਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ।

ਉਹ ਗੱਲ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਨਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੱਸ ਦੀ ਸੀ,

 ਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਬੁੱਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਈ,

 ਉਸ ਯਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ।

 ਹੱਲੇ ਵੀ ਯਾਦ ਆ ਉਹ ਦਿਨ

 ਚਿੱਟੀ ਕਮੀਜ਼ ਤੇ ਇਕ ਕੁਰਸੀ ਤੇ ਬੈਠਾ ਇਕ ਸ਼ਕਸ

 ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਸੂਰਜ ਦਾ ਪਰਚਾਵਨ ਹੋਵੇ। 

ਹੱਲੇ ਵੀ ਯਾਦ ਆ ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਾਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ।

ਗੁਲਾਬੀ ਰੰਗ ਦਾ ਕੁੜਤਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੀ ਮੈਂ, 

ਜਦੋਂ  ਤੈਨੁੰ ਚੋਰੀ ਚੋਰੀ ਤੱਕਿਆ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ।

 ਹਰ ਸਵੇਰ ਉਥੋਂ ਲੰਘਣਾ, ਥੋੜਾ ਉਡੀਕ ਕੇ,

ਥੋੜਾ ਬੇਚੈਨ ਹੋਕੇ।

 ਬੱਸ ਤੇਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰੀ ਵੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ,

 ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਥੋੜਾ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ।

 ਤੇਰੇ ਹਾੱਸੇ, ਤੇਰੇ ਬੋਲ, ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ,

ਮੇਰੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਦੀ ਲਕੀਰ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਹੱਸੀ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ।

 ਜਿਹੜੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਏਕ ਲੰਬੀ ਉਡੀਕ  ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ,

 ਮੈੰਨੂੰ  ਅੱਜ ਸਮਝ ਆਈ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ।

 ਥੋੜਾ ਹੱਸ ਕੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਵੀ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੱਲ ਵੇਖ ਲੈੰਨਾ 

ਹਰ ਵਾਰੀ ਮੈਨੁੰ ਲੱਗਦਾ

 ਜਿੱਦਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਰੋਜ਼ ਤੈਨੁੰ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ।

 ਦੋਸਤ ਬਣ ਕੇ, ਫੇਰ ਦੋਸਤ ਤੋ ਥੋੜਾ ਵੱਧ ਬਣ ਕੇ

 ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੌਲੀ ਹੌਲੀ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਿੱਤੀਆਂ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ

 ਉਹ ਗੁਲਾਬੀ ਬੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਸੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰਾਸ ਆ ਗਈ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ।

ਮੁੰਡਿਆ, ਤੂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਂ

ਓਦੋਂ ਦਾ, ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ

 ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ।

Jehdi khushi mildi ikk lammi udik ton baad,

Mainu ajj samajh aayi,

Jiddan main mildi haan roz tennu

Dost ban k, fer dost ton thoda vadd ban k

English Translation

You peeked at my memories yesterday, for the very first time.

The memory that was out of my control

And that could never make way to my lips

You saw that memory, for the very first time.

I still remember that day

There was my person, wearing that white shirt and sitting on a chair besides the window

He looked like a shining shadow of the sun.

I still have that memory intact with me

When I saw you for the very first time.

I was wearing a pink kurta 

When I stole my glances at you

For the very first time.

Crossing those roads, 

With a bit hesitation and wait

Just to see you for a moment.

But I calmed myself down

For the first time.

Your laughter, your words, our talks

Laughed like those lines of destiny on my forehead.

The happiness that we get after a long wait 

I understood that, for the first time.

Whenever you smile at me,

I feel like I meet you everyday

For the very first time.

We became friends

And then, more than friends.

I fell in love with the laughter of those pink lips.
