क्या वो ख़त्म हो जाती है?

कोमल कमल पर से ढलकी बूँद कहाँ जाती है?

क्या वो बस धूल, कीचड़ या जल हो जाती है?

क्या वो बस एक पल मिलन का जी कर यूँ ही मिट जाती है?

वो ही जाने कितना लंबा इंतज़ार, इतना पावन प्यार;

न जाने किस दरिया, सागर या झरने के जल में वर्षों इंतज़ार किया!

वो ही जाने किस तपती, ख़ूबसूरत सुबह उसने अपना स्वरूप त्याग,

जल से हवा हो जाना स्वीकार किया!

वो ही जाने कैसे ख़ुद में समेटे अपनी नमी को,

उस नन्हीं दृढ़संकल्पी प्रेयसी ने एक अनजान सफ़र पर प्रस्थान किया!

वो ही जाने कितने कोस उड़ी, सौ-सौ राहें मुड़ी,

थकी, बिखरी, पर हर पल थमने से इंकार किया।

गंतव्य तय था न उसके स्थिर हृदय में;

तो बस हर मनमौजी राही को अस्वीकार किया!

वो ही जाने कैसे ढूँढ़ा, कैसे पहचाना, पर उसे मिल ही गया वो पंकज,

जिसके लिए उसने धरा से गगन तक का सफ़र जिया!

वक़्त का जो सबसे छोटा होता होगा लम्हा,

बस उतना ही समय उसने अपने जलज के साथ व्यतीत किया!

कहाँ से चली, कहाँ को मिली, क्यों इतना जली,

ये सारे ख़याल छोड़कर संपूर्ण समर्पित,

पारद-सी चमकती, अपने निर्मल नीरज को आलिंगित किया!

एक पल मिलन का जी कर ढलक गई, आँखों से नीर जैसी,

मुट्ठी से तक़दीर जैसी, ओझल हुई मरीचिका जैसी!

हमारे लिए शायद वो इसी पल ख़त्म हो जाती है,

पर यह वो बावरी ही जानती है

कि वो तो बस इसी इक क्षण में ख़ुद को मुकम्मल पाती है!

क्षणिक ही था मिलन, पर इस लम्हे को दोबारा जीने की चाहत में

वो तो अगली ही घड़ी इस अद्वितीय सफ़र पर फिर निकल जाती है।

शायद हमारे-तुम्हारे लिए वो ख़त्म ही हो जाती है।
