Your intangible possessions

Original Submission by Richard Blankson

✍🏽43. your intangible possession

i’ve lost possession of my own heart to you

but that sounds too illegal to say

so rather, i’d confess that

i feel whatever it is that you feel.

your excitement, your sorrows,

your strengths and delusions,

i feel every touching bit of them all.

for my heart has lost senses of

whatever i used to feel.

it functions less like mine

and more like something i unconsciously

let you steal.

i have lived in fears

and i have lived with cares,

but in your presence it all

transforms into a feeling that makes

me want to disappear.

not from your beside,

but from the entire dilemma—

the knowing exactly how i feel

and the not knowing if it is right to

feel so.

i’ve lost possession of my own heart to you

but that sounds a bit too weird to say

so rather,

i’d confess that my heart now

whispers your name and in your

sorrows, it screams through the arteries

with so much pain

but

on days you stand up for yourself,

on days you genuinely laugh

and giggle, on days your heart

smiles and whistles the melodies

of your favorite tunes,

i find solace in my every thought

until i realize I’ve lost possession of

my heart to another who is close

yet too far from within my reach

🥲
