"You Cruel Bird"
By Gunja Shah
Oh, you cruel little bird!
How easily you can throw me off you
How easily you can break me into pieces?
I want us to be sincere.
To be alight with wisdom.
But you'd rather...
Spill dirt over me
Called me Queen...as you dethroned me.
Oh, you cruel big bird!
So sorry I underestimated you
I didn't realise that, maybe
You didn't want me anymore.
That all I could do for you was amuse.
Why would you?
First, want me as yours
Then reject my very existence.
Even as I see you long from afar.
Oh, you cruel, monstrous bird!
Do you not yearn for me?
Ache for my very sight?
Like I did yours today.
I may not want you as mine.
But I'd still like parts of you.
Whatever you would like to offer.
Wait! Don't give me any of you.
A little part won't do.
I'll crave all of you.
I'd hurt to know you had a past.
And hurt to have to lose you.
Because you would go away.
Oh, you wondrous little bird!
Did I play my part in your story?
Is my character dead already?
Did we not just reconnect?
Held our little minds together
And said hello.
Are you saying goodbye now?
It's okay, you can leave.
I'll be just fine.
Looking at this blue sky with a smile.
