Yoga

A Song Written on Her Spine

Each dawn the temple bells would chime,

their sacred hymns marking perfect time.

They called my Avva bright with cheer

to greet her God she held so dear.

The woman who once walked proud with grace

now struggled to even keep pace.

Her voice could no longer answer

the sacred call like before.

Then came a thud upon the floor,

her spine not knowing how to stand like before.

Later she held a book in view,

tracing recipes she once knew,

but flavours faded like morning dew.

I searched for a way to bring her back.

The stiffness that broke her days gave way

as yoga began to reshape her way.

Breath returned to the song written on her spine,

guiding every trembling step to fall in line.

Yoga taught her prayers to gently rhyme,

and the first name it sang was mine.

The stories she held close to heart,

the ones she baked into every tart.

And when the temple bells would chime,

my Avva answered-right on time.
