Yearning In The Silent Spaces

Updated: Feb 10, 2024

By Krishna Varsha Sagi

In the quiet corners of existence, where few of us reside,

Not the first choice, existing where their options hide.

Plan B, the backup, an obligation to bear,

A tolerated existence, in life's vast snare.

No fairytales for this introverted soul,

Just an average girl, not part of anyone’s goal.

Tears have dried, knots in the throat persist,

Smiles conceal agony, in the shadows, I exist.

Accustomed to being the overlooked art,

The one who's left when others depart.

I have grown used to this role I play,

Believing I deserve it in every way.

Unloved, I think it's a fault of mine,

Conditioned to “earn” love, a toxic line.

Silenced my opinions, for fear of loss,

In this world of shadows, bearing a heavy cost.

Desperation whispers, a yearning plea,

For a love unearned, pure and free.

Yearning for a friend, family untied,

To fight the world for me, by my side.

Beggars can't choose, so they say,

Desperate hearts keep quiet, in dismay.

Craving love without conditions' decree,

In shadows I dwell, longing to be free.

In a world entangled in conditions tight,

Why has love lost its unconditional light?

Parents, craving their child’s success to love

Prioritizing others, the heart of their daughter they shove.

Must success be earned before support's embrace?

A daughter's heart in the shadows, a familiar space.

Longing for love devoid of earning's chores,

A universal need, yet, love's simplicity is no more.

Friends seek the cool, partners the pretty,

Conditions set, love in a confined city.

Where are the days of love pure and free,

Unburdened by expectations, as it used to be?

Love searching for beauty's embrace,

Friends seeking trends, in love's chase.

Will I ever feel the warmth of unconditional love?

A plea echoing, beneath the stars above.

To earn love is a weight, a hurtful blow,

A desire for acceptance, my heart silently spoke.

The world need not love me in every way.

Or is it too much to ask for a simple display?

Seeking family and friends to be my fortress, my might,

Yet, understanding seems a distant light.

Not asking them to battle, just their comprehension,

To just grasp the hurt, as I don’t even seek their harsh action.

Let's rewind to days without rule books,

Loved ones and us, against the world's crooks.

When love flowed without judgments cold,

A tale of unconditional love, in memories old.
