Women on roads

By Girish kumar

I’m driving back home. It was a cloudy night; there is hardly anyone on the street. On my way I saw a girl standing on the road. It looks like she was waiting for someone. I stopped my car, went to her and asked her “do you need any help”. She looked at me with amazement and replied "no". I asked her "are you waiting for someone". She replied" no". I don’t want to leave her alone. So, I decided to take her home along with me. I somehow convinced her and we drove back home together. By the time we reached home, it was 11:60am. My wife is on vacation and hence there is no one at home to receive us. We had dinner together and later we spent some time discussing few things then we realized it’s time to sleep. Slowly I fell asleep and by the time I woke up she left the place. Later I found a letter written by her under my pillow.

She wrote "To my sister in law from your unknown..... Yesterday night as usual I was on the road looking for customers. It was raining and you know, even when the clouds are crying I should still stand there attracting people, offering them a pleasurable night. Suddenly a car stopped by me; I was expecting someone came to pick me up. But, It was your husband. He came to me and looked into my eyes where none wanted to see and asked me "do you need any help". Deep inside, I felt so happy. This is not a profession of my choice. I didn’t have a choice to choose but have a life to continue. I asked him to leave because there is no space for Mercy in my life. But he didn’t leave.

He kept on questioning, I don't want to tell him the truth but I couldn’t hold it long. I told him where I belong to and for what I am here. He was calm for a while. He bows his head down. I felt like he said sorry for the difficulties that I am facing. He went back to his car. I could see he is struggling to leave me alone. He then came back to me and asked "what is the price for the night" with such an innocent face. I understood his intension. He invited me to his house. He served me dinner. He gave me all the privacy that a women needs. He slept in the hall and gave me his bedroom. I only know tears out of pain, but for the first time this tears of happiness wants to flow long. He noticed there is something behind my cloths, body and mind, to define me. I never slept alone when the lights are off but today, I am alone with wet eyes and had a peaceful sleep. Many showed their compassion by giving money, offering a new life but no one knew a peaceful sleep can make me to feel like a rebirth. Today, I saw a man who wants to add light to my life.

With love,

Yours lovingly,

.................

I thought I could convince her to leave that profession but she knows that people will still treat her with same respect. So, she left.

Those who fulfills others desires are gods, She is a goddess, I felt.
