Wind

I hear your voice

Not as I’m suffocated by grief

Nor in my thoughts as I clutch onto my chest

Tears tumbling down in torrents as I uncontrollably weep

I hear your voice

In the rain drops splashing against the window

Quietly, gently, softly

Then a pounding, hammering crescendo

I hear your voice

In the sound and words of our favorite song

I hear you singing with me

The way you’ve done all along

I hear you voice

In the metal chime that the wind blows

Tinkling reassurance

“This is exactly how a well-lived life goes”

I hear your voice

In the icy winter breeze

I hear your whispers

Rustling through the trees

I hear your voice

In everyone else’s laughter

I hear you breathing softly

“I’ll love you forever and ever after”
