Will she find peace in a place full of noise?

You notice a girl sitting on a bench overlooking the river, enjoying the view of a huge stream among the trees and a big field with a small village nearby. She finds herself, in perfect hearing, listening to nature. It is a perfect setting for some calm and peace.

First, she hears baby birds chirping for food and an eagle flying above seeking food. Then, she focuses on the sound of the rushing waters from the river and the chattering of youth from the field.

Slowly, more noises start to fill the space. Someone in the car on their way home and someone on a plane flying above. She then goes back to the sound of birds chirping. She thought to herself, how touching it is that a parent is working hard to find food for her children and how the children are filled with patience and hope awaiting their parent’s arrival.

The voices get louder and louder. The eagle flying above is dominating the area and seeking food to survive at the expense of another. A faint thought comes to mind: that human nature has a higher station than that of an eagle. The rushing waters from the river, like, where are they rushing and where to? The chattering of youth on the field – they sound so excited and happy playing football with one another. How nice is it that we can establish such genuine friendships? The person in the car, who could be a father, just finished grocery shopping and is on the way back, excited to cook for the family. The person in the plane, who could be a female entrepreneur, just finished a business trip. She is praying to arrive back home safely and to be reunited with her family.

So many wonders and possible stories fill her mind with just the use of her hearing. When she opens her eyes, she is left with a mind full of thoughts and imaginations. Suddenly, the thought of emptiness fills her head. She finds loneliness sitting at the surface of herself, as she can’t seem to find the ability to express to others for one to fathom how beautiful the world is in her mind. Would it be seen and heard of as over-exaggerating, overthinking or overwhelming?

Trying to filter out these empty noises from her head, she slowly turns and looks within the essence of her heart. She comes to understand how beautiful creation is, the interaction of animals, the joyful friendships, and the loving families. She looks to the rays of sunlight and instantly feels a sense of calm, peace and wholeness. It was as if the wind whispered to her and said, “I truly know what is in your heart, and you shall unravel the mysteries of creation through art.”

… and so, she did! Inspired by art, she tried painting for the first time to illustrate her experience and hopes to share her story.

“The more we search for ourselves, the less likely we are to find ourselves; and the more we search for God, and to serve our fellow-men, the more profoundly will we become acquainted with ourselves, and the more inwardly assured. This is one of the great spiritual laws of life.”
