Why Do You Write?
By Kenisha Kapur
“Why do you write?” they asked.
The answer is, I don’t.
I don’t write,
instead, I stab my paper with a knife I call ‘feelings.’
I don’t write,
instead, I bleed words onto my page.
I don’t write,
instead, I splatter thoughts on my canvas.
I don’t write,
instead, I give my sheet a part of my soul.
I don’t write,
instead, I fix a broken piece of my heart.
No, I don’t write.
But for the sake of it,
I’ll answer the question as though I do.
I write,
because nobody listens.
