Who's The Biggest Traitor?

By Banupreya.S.K

It was one fine morning around 6am. I knew that I couldn’t sleep anymore because of my dad’s news channel being annoyingly loud. I slowly turned around my side, woke up and just opened the screens near my window. Slowly opened the window to know that it was raining heavily. Suddenly my mind ran over the thoughts of me enjoying the rain that early in the morning and jumping out of bed knowing that it’s gonna be a holiday.

Just thoughts… Powerful enough to make me smile and move out of my bed .

Then silently approached the living room and tried to take the remote under my control.

But then my dad was suspicious that he guessed me coming all the way to grab the remote that he quickly held firmly within his hands.

Sadly I sat beside him and couldn’t ask mom even for a coffee ( it was too early for both of us). Meanwhile I wished I could brush my teeth but laziness overruled.

Dad: what made you wake up so early?

Me: (with an annoying look and low tone) you & your stupid news! . Please change it.

Dad: It never happens ( with a smart smile all over his face)

News flashing : “ Headlines! “

“ A 15year old from Ambattur is said to be the TRAITOR “

“ The police found out that the crime is committed by a 15 year old neighbour boy.

The details that police filed were that the boy, Harish did the crime of murdering the other 15 year old boy, Kannan who’s the victim that morning. They also added that the Harish poisoned the victim to death!

(The news continues…)

Me : Dad who do you think is a big traitor?

Dad thinks….

News continues : “ A day before investigation report stated that Harish told the officers that the victim’s very own father is guilty!

The police believed the boy’s statement because the father of the victim accepted that he injured his son that day because of anger.

Me : Dad… Haven’t you figured out… What to answer.. Yet?

Dad was keenly watching the news!

News continues : Kannan was choosing his passion of becoming a cricket player over his studies that he failed his mid term.

In spite of his father’s warnings, Kannan refused and went to his practice sessions.

Disobedience was the factor that made Kannan’s father beat him so much since few weeks.

The mid term results being published recently made his father so furious that he beat him with the glass bottle . This statement from Kannan’s father made police believe that he was guilty.

The police on forensic investigation found out that the boy was murdered even before his father’s attack.

Me : Dad! Have you thought of answering at least now?

Dad : Yes… What was your question?

This is News 24/7 …

Me : Wait we have to hear this!

News continues : Harish killed Kannan!

Forensic investigation revealed that the victim was poisoned with “POTASSIUM CYANIDE “.

Later police with these findings and upon enquiry found out that the Harish’s father is a chemist and had samples of Tylenol as he is doing some study. Harish was educated enough by his father ( The chemist) about potential toxicity of the drug and asked him to stay away. Even after knowing about the drug why would Harish poison Kannan? The police question him!. He stated that “He wants to be the best cricketer! “

The police then understood that Harish poisoned kannan on purpose!

Dad : what made Harish think that killing his friend would eventually solve all his problems?

Me : I know right!

This is News 24/7 …. News continues!

Death by poisoning has always held a disturbing fascination. Shakespeare’s tragic tale of Romeo and Juliet has enthralled audiences for hundreds of years. The recent case of Kin Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korea’s leader who died in only 20 minutes from poisoning by a nerve agent, captivated the world. Indeed, poison has been the weapon of choice for a variety of murderers, from well-respected doctors to evil wartime commanders.

Cyanide is one of the quickest acting and has been implicated in several famous deaths. The chemical potassium cyanide, KCN, is produced in huge quantities by the chemical industry, with enough generated each month to kill every person on the planet.

The toxicity of cyanide Is due to its ability to bind to and shut down the enzyme cytochrome oxidase8 (also known as complex IV), which is found in the membrane of mitochondria (the powerhouse of cells). The correct functioning of this enzyme is essential for energy production and uses oxygen, delivered by blood from the lungs, in the final step in the oxidation of glucose.

When cyanide renders this enzyme inactive, oxygen in the blood can no longer be used and this is why the presence of bright red oxygenated blood is a symptom of cyanide poisoning.

The same has happened with this case too. When Kannan was urged to the hospital with the head injury, the doctors noticed the bright red blood bleeding out of this scalp. Immediately they ran the Tox screen, Meanwhile made efforts to save him. Unfortunately the boy died within few minutes.

Combining the Tox screen results with forensic reports proved that Kannan was poisoned and killed!

Breaking news : Harish’s new statement!

Me: Raise the volume daddy!

(The Dad raises the volume!!)

Harish : I saw one day that my dad was so happy… I went near him and asked why he was so happy. He said that he’s promoted as the senior chemist and was happy about it. At the same time I also knew that few days ago a person died being a senior chemist. When I asked for why’s he’s not worried about that he replied me “ Sometimes you have to do anything so that you can get something that you are desperately waiting for! “ This made me think why not make the boy sick so that I can beat him and be better!

Upon further investigation the police found out that the senior chemist was also been murdered by Harish’s father a few days ago!.

Dad : This right here you see is an example of bad parenting!

Me : Is being ambitious wrong dad?

Dad : Not at all…. Thoughts of achieving it at short time is dangerous. It could make you take wrong steps instead of following the nature of it’s course.

Me : So true! Now what happens next!

Breaking news : Harish and his father are arrested!

Kannan’s father is also been arrested!

Kannan’s father stated that “ It wouldn’t be fair if I wasn’t punished for committing the crime of not letting my boy to pursue his career the way he desperately wanted!”

Dad : You listened what he stated there!, there’s your answer dear!

Me : What?

Dad : The biggest traitor is the one who cheats themselves for not pursuing what his /her heart desires for!

(He gets up from the couch saying this and looking at his picture placed beside the TV area!)

Me : ( Noticed the picture of my dad and his army corps! ) said Soo true!!
