Whispers of Ranikhet
By Suhani Gupta
The scenic charm of Ranikhet,
So calming, pure, and deep;
Will I ever walk its paths one day?
Well… that’s for fate to keep.
A few young children laugh and play,
Their joy fills up the park,
While ancient trees stand still and worn,
Their bark long gone and dark.
The season shifts with quiet grace,
The days become shorter.
They bring in rainy nights,
leaving icy peaks on the mountain range.
As raindrops leap from heaven’s gate,
And tap upon the panes,
We rush to find our woollens warm,
And watch the window stains.
As the rain bids goodbye,
we all rain-lovers sigh.
But it leaves us with another present,
so keep reading! There’s more to it than meets the eye.
The clouds descend from skies so grim,
To cloak the towering peaks.
As Lady Cloud drifts soft and dim,
A spy no sunshine seeks.
The golden sun sets hills ablaze,
Before it dips from view,
We gaze at it in awe, spellbound and unfazed,
Adoring the skies, brushed red and blue.
The star-spun veil of midnight’s dome
Now blankets the Earth in light,
We lie in bed and dream of the skies
That danced with us tonight.
