Where Am I?
By Marcus Jones
I don't know where, or how far
There's no direction to find
I don't know where during stars
I feel as though I'm blind
This unconsciousness claimed a full day
Where did the time go?
Today, I wandered awake
Still felt, my eyes were closed
This unconsciousness is unknown
An enigma of some kind
I can't seem to find my home
Is something wrong with my mind?
My rest in solitude
My current roaming, he said
My soul split, separated
He's the cousin of dead
I have a connection with this pond
I visioned my kids while sitting here
That I can't seem to find
They seem to have disappeared
Where are they?! Goodness, where?!
I want to touch them, kiss them!
I want to talk to them!, he shouts
I want to be with them!
They were a part of my heart
Like a painter and his art
They were a part of my life
In the daytime and, at night
I can't find my wife either
My love, soulmate, my keep
Often, nobody's around
And I'm walking while I'm asleep
I see people there and there
But me, they don't seem to see
The same it's been for days
The same for over a week
Jacob, whom I've spoken with, is coming
I always see him in town
His depressed look saddens me
Something seems to have him bound
Jacob once saved my child's life
In tears, I yelled, “please someone!”
The car, the blood, his bike
I still see the other kid run from
I'm gonna make these streets safer
I just need support, he pleaded
He achieved it and got cheers
It was something the town needed
Jacob and I, climbed a mountain
He invited me to go
The view was captivating
It was, definitely, something to show
Jacob stands here in tears
Tears looking unbearable
Like something heavy happened
Something that was terrible
Jacob said, I'm sorry
I love you John, my friend
Go back over to the mountain
Where we climbed, then
Jacob walked away and vanished
Where am I? Aren't I asleep?
The mountain stands before John
Very big, wide and steep
He looked to the mountain's towering top
Two bodies were falling down
John stepped to the side
And they hit the ground, unsound
My dear God, that's me
That's me and Jacob, he said
I remember now, we both fell
I'm not alive, I'm dead
John's wife sat the picture of them and their kids on the mantle; where it's been sitting for nine years. The picture of the four of them at the beautiful pond they always went to, where she and John liked to lay on the grass.
There on the mantle, the twelve inch framed picture sits. While she was staring at it, it moved. She stood up and said, John?....
