When You Left.
By Tejaswi D Shetty
When you left.
Decamped and blue.
I puffed the smoke.
Good wives go to stones
but I just sit here and wait.
Barefoot on thin ice,
tearing silk sheets.
Your ivory cuts the knife.
When you left.
Wounded and irate.
My ghosts and your favourite demons
paved their way to the land.
They colluded for the blood.
I gave them a war.
When you left.
Withered and worn.
They confided the words of an old.
For I, never grieved for the living.
Yet inside this blatant chest,
there ran a massacre of emotions.
When you left.
For long and brave.
The rue of the day
called out your favourite name.
I dwelled in the time for it to be mine.
But the whispers of my conscience told otherwise.
When you left.
Frightened but a hero.
I remembered you as a pain.
My faith slipped easily
at the dawn of each word.
There was a purpose in my heat.
But the flame burnt what it had seen.
