I imagine innocence smells like vanilla bean and jasmine,

and sounds like a sweet summer song to those who sing.

I imagine it tastes like coconut and tropical fruit platters —

a whisper of vacation promises to weary minds.

I imagine innocence as the holiday destination before

the bridge we are forced to cross —

blind rest before the battle

against knowledge known and unknown.

Needed…

Not always wanted.

I imagine the release and the tightening;

the relief and the regret

of a meeting with revelation.

I knew all along.
