When The See Met The Shore

Updated: Jul 16, 2025

By Prabhnoor Gomra

A drowning captain once wished upon a star,

He asked God to give him another chance.

His ship was sinking, his eyes shed tears,

But with regret and not with fear.

He asked selfishly for one more thing,

He asked God for a chance at bliss.

More water than breath in his lungs,

God finally took pity and gave him this.

He sent over more than the sailor asked for,

He sent over you, a magnificent shore.

Your water never drowned me,

Your words never ate me whole.

The glistening of your ocean sparkles up my life,

The beauty of your shells never trapped me in.

It was your very hands that wiped my tears,

It was your actions that caressed my skin.

All my poetry is written for you to read,

My heart was always yours to keep.

For I am the captain, and you are my shore,

And I really couldn’t have asked for more.
