When the Pines Waved Goodbye

By Vagdha S

Embrace of clouds over the mountains,

Warmth of pines at the foot;

The Lidder waters rippled, touched by the rocks.

A diverse rhythm of laughter flowed through the cool air,

Faces enlightened by gold light.

The heart of the mountain beat fast,

The valley shook under the blast;

Shepherd villages fell quiet,

Bodies shuddered, heavy and hollow,

As some became motionless.

Cries rose, silence mourned;

Snow curled tighter around the mountains,

Until the flames in their hearts trembled.

Restless eyes searched each other,

Into the light, in the end.

Their bones fell beneath the terror,

Leaving the echoes of shatter.

But the flame of their hearts together,

Against the silence of the snowy meadows,

To carve the lights in the sky.
