When Love Knocks

When love knocks on my door

I have a feeling that I'll be expecting something

Nothing guaranteed, but nothing out of the blue

Just some things I need to see, need to feel

To know that it is true

When love knocks on my door

It'll take some unlocking to have the door open

And the bolts won't come off easy

Because this heart has been hurt before.

Love will just have to wait outside

Dust it's shoes on my welcome mat

And show me that it has patience

That it has trust

That it has faith

When love knocks on my doors,

I will be ready with open arms

I will expect so much

But learn to love what comes unexpected

Love will always have a seat at my table

An extra pillow on my bed

And a special thought in my head

When love knocks on my door

I will be prepared to do it all.

To laugh like love was my best years

To share and overcome my fears

And most of all, to love back.

When love knocks on my doors

I will be ready with so much more love to give

I will be ready to support, to hold, to live

Because I know love would do the same for me

I know what love could truly be

It's not about just falling in love.

It's about stumbling,

It's about hitting the floor

So that love can offer you more

It's about running, jogging and walking

And taking a break when you need

Because love is the opposite of greed.

It is patience

It is trust

It is faith

When love knocks on my door

I will tell it to be careful.

I will let it touch me, but never make a scar

I will tell it to handle me with care

Tell it that I haven't been treated fair

I will tell love when I need to be comforted

I will tell love about the wars in my head

While it gently occupies my thoughts instead

I will talk to love about what matters to me

I will tell love the person I want to be

And hope that it will guide me on my journey

Never playing the protagonist

But just the supporting role.

I will pour it a drink, a shot or two

And I will tell it about our place in the sky

And my hopes and dreams

And so much more

And then,

And then I will give love

The chance to walk out my door

And after all this,

If the door closes but love is still inside

I will always recollect the day

When love walked in, only to stay.
