Always Smiling, But Never Happy

Marli Loots

It's always the same thing with me, isn't it?

Always smiling, but never happy.

I wear my smile as if I borrowed it from a library.

My laugh can be loud,

but inside, it's just a silent crowd.

I'm not happy, but I'm not sad.

I'm not okay, but I'm not depressed.

There's a fine line between who I am

and who I might become.

A thin line I can't let go of,

yet it lives rent-free in my mind.

It feels like I'm drowning,

but my feet are on solid ground.

Always smiling, but never happy.

It's a fine line between love and hate.

We don't hate the people we love,

but we don't agree on how they treat us.

Smiling - Always,

Happy - Never.
