When I Think Of Vote

As a citizen of India, when I think of VOTE,

what flashes across my mind are all the reasons to not.

For I feel a dearth of honesty and of honour.

I feel a paucity of progressive mindset.

When I search for a worthy leader,

I feel like I’m lost in a labyrinth.

Because today’s leaders follow nothing but fast paced ‘pure’ politics.

As a citizen of India, when I think of VOTE,

what flashes across my mind,

is a leader who fulfils the promise of a Sovereign nation;

where responsibility for the country is people’s station.

A leader who fulfils the promise of a Socialist nation;

where people share every bit without hesitation.

A leader who fulfils the promise of a Secular nation;

where Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism and every other religion is in equation.

A leader who fulfils the promise of a Democratic Republic;

where leaders are elected through genuine VOTE by public.

A leader who values justice, liberty, equality, fraternity, integrity to the core,

giving wings to India to scale new heights and soar.

As a citizen of India, when I think of VOTE,

what flashes across my mind,

is the day I decide, to use not only my right but my power to VOTE,

which I will, when on the ballot paper I note,

the name of a leader

with an eternal flame of patriotism like Bhagat Singh,

with selfless love for the nation like Captain Vikram Batra,

with the courage of Savitri Bai Phule,

with the progressive spirit of Dr Abdul Kalam.

That’s when, for us, the people of India,

who have solemnly resolved to constitute India,

as mentioned in the Preamble,

Our VOTE would no longer be a gamble.
