What He Ceased To Be

He smelled of alcohol and sweat and deodorant

And it was still comforting

Maybe because it was familiar

He wore abnormally loose jeans

And strange looking shirts

And unkempt, several times unwashed hair

And it was still comforting

Maybe because it was familiar

He loomed large in front of my petite frame

And still managed to make me feel safe

Was it because it felt familiar?

And one day he ceased to be all of that

And I knew why

Because it felt all too familiar.
