Weren't they real?
By Mehmooda Khan
On one of those moonlit nights,
When the dark shadow slightly discovers it's might...
Why can't I sleep?
With all the broken unicorn dreams of stolen eyegazes and mysterious love mazes and blushing phrases of fairytale amazes, weren't they real?
All the make-believe bubbles of hesitating heys and long walks on the alleyways and rules of grays and castles of clays, weren't they real?
All the Genie wishes of kisses bringing back the dead and wars with bloodshed and mysterious ballad and magical myriad, weren't they real?
All the Hogwarts longings for books coming to life and pleasing romantic strife and goodness rife and screaming nightlife, weren't they real?
Don't you feel powerless living in other people's worlds?
I am not like others. I want life to feel important. I want magic to be real. I want imagination to come to existence. Like words having the might to bring personalities to life. Love having the potential to bring someone back from the dead. I want to believe in what is not real. Unicorn dreams with gypsy stardust, lilac fairies who are friends with the mermaids, prophecies, angry Gods, immortality, I want them all.
Reality pales in comparison.
