Water

By Aparna J

Rugged stones and wilted plants,

And not a drop of water in sight,

The scorching heat has left throats parched,

As life waits anxiously for moonlit night.

Every drop of water is an elixir,

Its worth is beyond measure.

Barren lands that reek of death,

Yearn for this priceless treasure.

Be it a sea, river, lake, or pond,

Water displays its aesthetic form,

It reflects various shades of blue.

Especially when it’s placid before a storm.

The gurgling sounds from the gushing silver stream,

Reveal Mother Nature’s exuberance and charm.

Unlike dried up wells and water bodies,

Leading to the path of death and harm.

Water as one of the five elements,

Also teaches us an important lesson,

Adaptability is the key to survival,

Mould yourself as per the situation.

It assumes the size and shape of the container,

And changes its flavour when added to any beverage,

How mesmerizing is the first drop of rain or the sea wave!

Yet, it could be a dangerous foe when it unleashes its fury or rage.
