Vishu_A Golden Festival

A festival that marks beginning of harvesting on first day of an astronomical year,

A joyful occasion that is celebrated in various South-Indian parts,

A day when dish of yellow and golden is prepared by amalgamation of all tastes,

“Sadhya” is a feast consisting of rice, veggies and Payasam made of coconut milk and jaggery.

God of Time - Lord Vishnu is worshipped on this day,

Stories of his 9th incarnation Lord Krishna are preached.

There is a custom to see “Vishukani” first after waking up,

It’s a setting comprised of offerings such as golden fruits and flowers.

It’s a setting comprised of Krishna’s idol decorated with gold garland,

It’s a display of “Kani velari” in a bell metal vessel “Uruli” lighted with oil lamps.

“Konna” flowers bloom giving a sign of arrival of Vishu.

Those golden colour flowers plays a key role in prayers and rituals.

Children receives gifts and blessing from the elders,

Like “Diwali”, on this day also people burn firecrackers. 

“Preet” wishes “Happy Vishu” to everybody,

May everybody’s experiences become golden as “Konna flowers”.
