മൂന്നു പേർ,

മൂന്നു വഴികളിലേക്കായി

യാത്ര തിരിച്ചു.

പോകുന്ന വഴിയിൽ,

വിജനമായൊരു വീഥിയിൽ,

ഒരു യാചകൻ

അവരെ എതിരേറ്റു.

ഒന്നാമൻ പറഞ്ഞു:

“എന്റെ കയ്യിൽ

അല്പം പണമുണ്ട്,

നിനക്ക് അത് വേണമോ?”

യാചകൻ

നിശബ്ദമായി മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു-

“വേണ്ട.”

രണ്ടാമൻ പറഞ്ഞു:

“എന്റെ കയ്യിൽ

അല്പം വസ്ത്രമുണ്ട്,

അത് നിനക്ക് തരട്ടേ?”

വീണ്ടും

അതേ മറുപടി-

“വേണ്ട.”

മൂന്നാമൻ പറഞ്ഞു:

“എന്റെ കയ്യിൽ

അല്പം ആഹാരമുണ്ട്,

നിനക്ക് അത് തരട്ടേ?”

യാചകൻ

ഒരു വാക്കും പറയാതെ,

ആഹാരം വാങ്ങി-

വിശപ്പിന്റെ മൗനത്തോടെ

കഴിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി…
