Verses From The Velvet Sky

By Preetham Halwi

We gaze upon the bewitching black,

A sky of stars, of dust and track,

It speaks in silence, vast and wide—

Of love once felt, of friends who died.

Among those gems, one rock stands tall,

A polished pearl above us all,

Bathed in white, a silent guide,

Its silver glow cast far and wide.

Through phases waning, waxing slowly,

It whispers truths we’ve come to know—

That even light may fade from view,

Yet always finds a path back through.

It's arc from pitch to gentle gleam

Ignites in us a sacred dream—

That we, too, rise from where we fall,

And find our light, though dim and small.

It warms the void with tender grace,

And holds the dark in soft embrace.

But still we ask, in quiet fright:

Will day break free from the night?

Must shadows chase what longs for peace?

Will dusk and dawn find their release?

And when we look to the skies unseen,

Will the half-moon ever be… complete?
