Venus's Rose

By Kavya Mehta

In the garden of love and logic,

This rose revolves-

She spins with a lovelorn heart,

Pulled by distant suns.

Once in a rare blue moon,

She leads a dance of ache and loss,

A dart flies down the pathway of desire,

And I- Venus, goddess of love-

Feel madness stir within my chest.

Love sang once,

But now it stings;

It stings as I sink

Deeper,

And deeper still.

I played at Cupid’s bow,

Unseeing that all arrows

Pointed straight at me.

Yet it was you,

Striking through my dark,

And for a single moment,

I forgot the hurt

I would carry forever

Just to be by your side.

Perhaps in another lifetime,

No arrows need fly,

No battles need be fought;

Yet in my mind,

We twirl and spin-

A Venus-rose revolving

Around the sun-

Around you.
