Unstable Soil
By D.S.S. Lalitha Ujwala
a flower holds value for us,
it has beauty, it's aromatic, has pleasant fragrance
but what about a flower bud?
for some reason, it doesn't hold any value to us,
all we care about and expect is for it to blossom into a beautiful flower,
we tend to it, watch it carefully every day, put our expectations on it,
and when it wilts, we blame it
don't you think we do the same to children,
we give them food, education, shelter, care,
expecting them to return the favor at every step,
and when they don't, we blame them,
"you're so ungrateful, we gave you everything"
for the bud to blossom it needs to have,
a stable foundation, good soil,
if it doesn't have that, then it doesn't matter how much,
fertilizer, you add or how much water you give
it's always going to wilt,
and the same goes for a child,
if the home is unstable,
how can you expect them to even live without resentment?
how can you expect them to be with you, take care of you when all you did was expect and yell?
how dare you even expect anything from that poor soul, who's seen the 7 circles of hell on the earth itself because of you?
answer me!
you never gave them a place to call home, place to stay safe, a place with no secrets,
making them home sick at their own house,
we torment them instead of the caretaker,
we tell them to always stay obedient, that it's always their fault,
when a child leaves their care taker, we always think that the child must be,
ungrateful, spoiled, has no manners,
but no one questions the devil in disguise, the care taker
who made them take that extreme step...........

A compelling metaphor exposing unstable homes, misplaced expectations, and society’s tendency to blame children’s wounds.
