Unloved with Love

By Mahmuda Elias

The loved fail to appreciate the perspective of the lover -

That’s the well-laid plan as to why one is never sober.

Romanticism blooms like some flower in fresh spring,

Until the fall comes along and the leaves bleed and sting.

Two phantoms seeking for a flame to reignite -

A fire that once burnt so bright,

But it transcends to a quiet sprinkle at night.

‘Unloved’ greeted with an old, cold, familiar ache;

‘Loved’ with a regret of the illusion they break.

A perpetual cycle, never seeks leisure,

An occurrence destiny treasures.

So the unloved wraps in melancholy

And the loved composes a tragedy

To echo for eternity.

Two souls yet dance through the mess

In hopes with the love that persists regardless.

Heat of the beat, mingling footsteps;

Restoring love from when it was put to rest.

Fate watches the scene unfold ahead,

Dreading the upcoming bloodshed,

Awaiting for intimacy to be gifted death.
