Unconditional

By Krupa Elsa Saji

He gallops around the room, as if there's nothing in this world that he has to be concerned about. His fears are up for a no-show game when she's right next to him, holding him close to her. He can be quite a handful and he is more than capable of getting on every last of her nerve. He tells her he loves her, but she knows it's not forever. They change, they all do. One day they're asking you if white shoes could work with a blue shirt and the next, they're off on their own with a pair of dark shades and a briefcase in hand.

Her world revolves around him. It just feels empty without him around. He's what she lives for. And he knows that. He knows that she's the only one who could protect him from all the beasts in the wild. He knows she would give her life to sustain his. He knows he's always going to have the power over her - the kind of power that love has over you, the kind that turns you blind towards darkness and numb towards pain. But he doesn't realize, that it'll all end up in a toss. It doesn't occur to him that one day he could wake up and decide that she wasn't as important to him as he thought she was. Yet she would still love him, unconditionally. She would love you the same too.

All you need to do for a little reassurance is say, "Mumma, I'm still hungry", and watch her place the last roti on your plate while she gulps down a glass of water.
