Tying The Knot

I knew it was my day,

Like anyone else’s,

It’s something every girl dream of,

You’ll like it too, they said.

I was told everything falls in place,

Once you tie the knot,

To the love of your life,

Is who you should wait for.

I waited, hence,

I dreamt too,

Till my day came,

To tie the knot.

“It’s okay baby, we can take care”,

It’s a ritual in our culture,

You’ll have a beautiful life,

Lavishly lived, and to die for,

You tie the knot,

We will take care of the rest.

I could find the first letter,

Of the love of my life,

When I looked at my hand,

Carefully curated and

Just a drop of tear fell on the initial.

It’s okay baby,

It happens to all of us,

They still said,

It’s just a few lakhs more,

Not to worry much.

It’s okay baby.

And I decided,

To tie the knot,

Forever to myself,

And to every odd.

Still they kept saying,

It’s okay baby, do tie the knot.
