He has always loved her. He might not have been able to stand her when she was at her best. Her, being the polymath that she was. Always better than him. Always right. He might have poisoned her soda. He might have lost her forever.
He dreams of her. “Stay a little while longer?” she says. “Stay forever, I would.”, he says. “You could make yourself some coffee; stay up,” she says. Stay - she means, literally. Stay - he wants, not really. But she is right. Always.
He wakes up grateful. Grateful - because he has had dreams less kind. Life, though, he knows is just toxic. He has to make coffee. But he knows he is out of powder. Now, he is parched. He has been for a while. He has to drink soda instead. He might have had the last straw. His - final straw. His - terminal lust. His - ending love. He will always love her.
