Trying

i was trying to see

my friends, 

your friends,

our friends,

but you ruined it

you said i couldn’t see them

without you

as if that’s something you

can decide

don’t you remember?

you were the one who broke me,

not the other way around

you called me a “mistake”

and then tried to be friends

that would have been a mistake

you claimed that i ruined your life

and then tried to talk to me

that could have ruined my life

you referred to me as “broken”

and then changed it to “beautiful mess”

that didn’t make it better

you said you felt left out

when really

you were the one who

left me out

why wasn’t i let in?

all i did was try
