True Riches
By Immanuel Stephen Maben
How does a friend really look like?
Can anyone tell?
It may not be love at first sight,
When your heart rings like a bell.
Yes “Use and throw" is the phrase that fits.
People have become each other's mucus spit.
Starts out like dopamine,
And then you get kicked in the spleen.
You start alive and end up a Frankenstein,
To know this you don't have to be Einstein.
Like a roller coaster they take you up
And down you come with a crash,
All your feelings betrayed and trashed.
A person once so strong,
Now a heart stabbed with a prong.
But as they say "A true friend sticks closer than a brother".
But I say you see in them your father and mother.
A true friend who can find?
Please tell me so I with them can bind.
Oh behold I did find mine.
My heart sings with infinite rhymes.
Soaring in the clouds I realize,
True riches is when a true friend would suffice.
Woe is the one who has everything,
But lack a friend to make their heart sing.
Better a beggar on the street,
With a friend to greet and meet.
Than a rich man surrounded by his wealth,
And not a soul to sit with him to eat.
Yes life's true riches are found,
When your life with a true friend is bound
