Train To Hell

By Anushika Teli

When a white glint flashed through her eyes as the train approached, she was startled, immediately recognizing who it was. She quickly turned around, searching for the source, and looked him in the eyes, Jasper. Oh, how long she awaited his homecoming while yet dreading it.

"You shouldn't have come back here," whispered Morana.

"I had to see you for the last time. I don't know when I'll ever meet you again,"

She looked down, afraid that if she gazed into his muddy eyes, she'd become lost in them like she had been before. Jasper took a step forward, his bloodied cloak dragging behind him. He was distinct from other demons.

Only their owner was allowed to see their slave.

"I'll remember you in my dreams, and make your face-"

"In the stars," she completed his sentence. She finally stared into his eyes, tears flowing down her face, remembering all the good and horrible in them, losing herself in it, and wishing she had never had to go. In the world of humans, they only had one another, but not anymore.

She drew the dagger from its scabbard beside her corset and levelled it at Jasper. She tossed it at him before she realized what she was doing, and he vanished into thin air, leaving nothing but ashes behind.

She whispered to herself, "I had to, I'm sorry Jas," knowing that murdering him meant killing a part of herself, but it was no different than what she was going to do now.

Morana entered the train and saw it was vacant. She was finally ready to put a stop to this nightmare for good. When she peered at the screen on the other side, it was entirely black. She could see where it was going: a terrible realm where no one comes out alive. Wasn't that what she desired? Why, therefore, was she so eager to exit?
