To those who push themselves too hard

Who really are you behind the facade of composure?

When you’ve finished every bit of work- even the optional ones,

exhausted every material,

and overdid every simple project,

what would you do?

How does someone who expects so highly of themselves

ever content with what they’ve produced?

In the process of chasing a perfection

let’s be honest,

you will never find,

do you even stop and realize that you don’t know who you are anymore?

Behind the countless trophies and achievements,

the grades that never slip,

and that cool smile that never quivers,

you’ve lost yourself.

Who are you

without the reputation of being a “smart girl?”

Is there even a small part of you,

that survived being submerged in work

and remembers your childhood?

That version of you who used to run around the house naked

and beg your mom for more Barbie dolls.

That version of you who didn’t care how they looked

or didn’t compare themselves to others.

That version of you who wasn’t so concerned with

making the parents who will never be proud,

proud.

But if by some chance,

that small piece,

that real piece

of you is in there,

maybe it’s time to revisit it.
