To My Sister, As You Begin a New Life

As dusk gently settles down,

A tide of raw emotion

Rises, bit by bit,

And quietly breaks my heart.

I have lost —

Relinquished my right to our shared land of memories.

Tranquil tears descend in silence,

Softly heralded by a tender sense of peace.

I linger in our yesterdays,

Holding on to every word, every laugh, every hue.

I will miss you —

Be it night, be it day.

Just be yourself,

Take that mighty plunge.

We will always be with you,

Like the light and the sun.

So let us end this quiet debate —

There are no words I can write

To measure your worth.

You are God’s own child —

The gracious one.

-From your irritating brother
