To Edinburgh

Ruin my or salvation?

A peek through the lashes’ fringe -

I’m here for short vocations

Or for the century hinged?

Am I non compos mentis?

Are you my foe or friend?

Why to your intricate railings

I cling for salvation tend?

Tormented by past and desires.

Stifled by hatred and cry.

Were there churches’ spires

Forceps or scalpel-like?

The winds blew my soul into morrow,

Healed from the drunken pranks…

And living in distant boroughs

I’ll write you a letter of thanks.
