To Break Me Again

By Charitha Nakkina

You weren’t there

You weren’t aware

When I’m in my darkest days

Enslaved to my deepest fears;

You weren’t there

You can’t even picture

How life played cards&

Everything was in shreds;

I didn’t go numb

Felt the pain you know

Used to laugh but it sounded dry

Used to shout but no noise came out anyway

I burned but in a silent cry;

With burning throat and scarlet eyes

Spent my days idling away

Stuck in the trick of mind and

Running in the loop of time

Finally woke up and said

Stop and break it

The maize I’ve built

You weren’t there then

I stood again and shot them people down

All those voices trying to trip me

To break me and to rip me

Rose above them

Rose above the line

To run my own& tried to align

Red & blue, black & white;

The gray and the green in me

Now you come with the same old plea

An evil plan to break me again

To tear me apart

Oh! don’t you dare

Because you weren’t aware

Of the calm before storm

To wash you away&

To make you flail

You can’t even compare;

Darling! Do not dare

To break me

Or to make me

Cause to bury me again

You’d have to come above
