Threads of Memories

Flower terminology-

In the Victorian era, Rosemaries served as a symbol of remembrance and butterfly weeds meant to let someone/something to go.

Threads of Memories

The dissonant tune of the yellow bus,

 elegant hands rushing her ponytails,

 an absent-minded smile,

as she impatiently sits-

telling her mother to be swift.

All gone in a distant, melodious land.

The sonorous laughs,

The sultry sunlight shining lost gossips-

as she fretted about the cold floor,

jesting with her peers.

The school trips of yore,

The seasons she’d spent scudding with her pals,

rustling through stale-rusty autumn leaves.

The quivering heartstrings of her first bunk,

The heaving spring of her first crush,

all in my head,

as I tend to my rosemaries-

Sitting in my couch,

The thread of old memories

slipping through my fingers

as I try to hold them, so tightly,

entangling it in my knuckles,

but I known,

all through,

that rosemaries grow well with butterfly weeds.
