This Encounter Of Abyss

By Karthika Rajan

What if I’m a star stuck around a black hole

Orbiting around

As a mute commentator of all that is known, unknown and unknowable

Well studied, yet merely understood

Just like a virus.

What if I'm in love with this despair

This fatalism

This frantic swirling past its starving host

Despite being devoured of its own matter.

What if, this encounter of abyss

With these silhouettes of harmonized breathing

Sabotaging itself

For a scrap of intimacy

Reveals the depth of all my cracks

In a trillion years

After the chaos has yielded

Past all penalty

One nightmare less

But a dream lost

This star - I hope shall be

Kneaded into a planet

A planet - I dare say - holds a promise

As glorious as the star it was born from.
