Thin Skinned

The twinkle in those eyes,

replaced by fear of these times,

the unconditional faith and tries,

stopped now, as they became wise,

the feelings of calm and joy,

were they all just lies?

The truth is bitter,

hope never felt so sweet,

the past that shines like glitter,

makes the present seem effete,

never believed I was a quitter,

until I watched my fears become concrete,

soon got caught with thoughts that flicker,

was my skin not thicker?
