These Fleeting Emotions

As the night sets in,

I begin to comprehend who I am,

I hear the echoes of a dropped pin,

As trains of memories into my mind ram.

The ones from my childhood,

The ones of me contemplating my future,

The times when I sulk and brood,

My broken heart I sit to suture.

My wounds may heal,

But my scars won’t fade,

An inner self, struck a deal,

That our true emotions we shall trade.

What I am, the world does not see,

I am no successful person.

The enormous expectations set upon me,

Feel like to my head there is a gun.

I grab hold of the revolver each day,

Hoping it would end my misery,

But life wasn’t meant to end this way,

Not without happiness in my treasury.

To every such fleeting thought,

My loved ones come to the rescue,

Every single one of them, what a foolish lot,

Remind me of what I have due.

I have to prove my worth,

Even though some may feel it’s not a necessity,

That has been my goal from birth,

My creation was serendipity.

Only when all these thoughts are set free,

Do I realise the obvious.

Those burdening expectations were set by me,

Why was I so oblivious??!!

Nevertheless, I must go through this,

With each passing night,

My thoughts are not aimless,

These are the source of my might.

I am impervious to others words,

As I am my greatest critic,

And to those who pass opinions in herds,

They shall not get what they seek.

In a nutshell, this is who I am,

A self deprecating broken man

But I am comfortable with who I am

Knowing how to live out my lifespan
