The Years in Their Eyes

I held you close, so small, so new,

A tiny world in my arms grew.

Your first cry broke the silent air,

A melody beyond compare.

With wobbly steps, you found your way,

A little braver every day.

Each tumble taught you how to stand,

Your tiny fingers let go of my hand.

The questions came, the endless “whys,”

You saw the world with open eyes.

Every leaf, a story to tell,

Every puddle, a wishing well.

But time, that thief, it doesn’t wait,

I watch you grow, it’s bittersweet fate.

Your laughter shifts, your dreams expand,

A child no longer, but still so grand.

Now, as you soar where dreams reside,

I feel both joy and ache inside.

For while you bloom and seek the skies,

I see the years still in your eyes.

So go, my love, and find your way,

But know my heart is where you’ll stay.

For though the world becomes your own,

You’ll always carry my love as home.
