The Wrath of Cyclone Ditwah

One fine day

On the morning of November 27

Something terrible happened last year

The once sunny sky on a beautiful morning

Suddenly turned grey filled with clouds

Making the sky looking completely overcast

Stormy grey atmosphere made life miserable

Leaves on tall trees started to sway

The monstrous breeze wrecked havoc the whole day

The rain fell in torrents

And an uncontrollable drizzle rapidly splashed down

From the crying skies

Blocking the drains and flooding waterways

Filling the whole planet’s surface

By the morning of November 28

Things have started to become much worse

The storms have fully grown

To the most devastating cyclone in recent history

The whole day was filled with blustery winds

That swept across miles of land

From the rains and the howling winds

Firmly blown and loud

Rolling across darkened skies

And some grey clouds

And the central hills of the Hill Country

Were left shaken overnight

Causing massive and wanton destruction

And an irreplaceable loss of life

Several houses were razed to the ground

And the violent Earth cried heavily like an angry baby

Not even sparing a single thought to say goodbye

More than fifty families were swept away

And over six hundred lives were completely lost

In the cold hands of the landslides

The tears of the crying sky

Now fall in heavy drizzling

As people’s hearts are filled with silence

We pray for Sri Lanka to stop any disasters

From striking the island in the future ever again

May peace return to normal

And may the hearts and souls of the people heal faster
